MUSEUM OF POLISH HISTORY – EXHIBITION
ARCHITECTURE: WWAA
2018 WARSAW

In the exhibition space, free-standing exhibits sit side by side with those enclosed in showcases. Each deserves attention, and this must not be achieved at the expense of the other works on display. This raises the need for strict control over the precise direction of light streams and their intensity on the surfaces of the exhibits.

Considering the lighting of each exhibit individually therefore misses the point; rather, the designer should aim for the effect of his work to be perceived as a composition. Paradoxically, however, the most important thing is not to display the collections in the best possible way, but to make them as safe as possible. As we all know, every kind of light changes the structure of the objects on display, so sometimes a valuable old print needs to be protected by twilight, and only its description can be illuminated with a lash of light.
