QLS DAYLIGHT AND ARTIFICIAL LIGHT INTEGRATION SYSTEM

The subject of this study was the design of a system for the integration of daylight and artificial lighting in the offices of the ARUP company headquarters in Warsaw.
The design of the integrated daylight and artificial lighting QLS is an original system solution developed by QLAB Laboratory of Light.
The QLAB Lighting System is a set of design solutions for the perfect integration of daylight and artificial light in office and educational spaces, among others. The system makes it possible to create a high-quality lighting environment and comfortable living and working conditions for offices. It also makes it possible to achieve significant savings in electricity consumption for lighting.
The full functionality of the QLS system is based on:
• a window system for transmitting daylight
• an assembly of different luminaires
• an artificial lighting control system
With QLS, annoying glare is completely eliminated and the room remains bright. Roller shutters fitted to the support beams in the upper part of the window protect against direct sunlight, while daylight continues to enter through the unobstructed upper part of the window. It bounces off the light shelves and is directed towards the ceiling, from where it - again reflected and diffused - returns to illuminate the deeper parts of the room. The result is perfect lighting conditions: The light is soft, diffused and balanced.
When the amount of daylight reaching the individual work zones becomes insufficient (e.g. due to cloud cover or dusk), individual light sensors cause the artificial lighting to be switched on and gradually, smoothly brightened: first with diffuse light and then with direct light directed at the work areas. Thanks to the integrated daylight and artificial light system, highly comfortable lighting conditions and significant electricity savings are achieved.
