CATHEDRAL HOTEL
ARCHITECTURE: FORUM ARCHITEKCI
2017 WROCŁAW
The exclusive Cathedral Hotel will be located in the heart of Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island) in Wrocław, in the immediate vicinity of St. John the Baptist Cathedral, the Seminary and many other historic buildings located in this unique place.
The architecture of the building fits perfectly into the context, both in terms of scale, materials used and the overall character of the spatial solutions and details. The main idea behind the illumination project is to emphasise the building's beauty, gently highlighting the articulation of the façade rhythms and subtly marking the most important zones, mainly the main entrance area.
The Ostrów Tumski area is illuminated at night by gas lanterns, which give off a specific light of low intensity, and this fact should be taken into account in the illumination design of the building. Another strong inspiration were the candles lit in the twilight of Ostrow's Gothic churches. These elements influenced the choice of luminaire type and the colour temperature of the light sources. A large number of small luminaires with a very warm colour temperature, invisible from human level, were used.
The entrance areas of the building were also illuminated with a large number of small luminaires, which translates into a lack of unpleasant glare and maintains the intimate character of the building.
