OLIVIA BUSINESS CENTRE - WINTER GARDEN
ARCHITECTURE: KONIOR AND PARTNERS ARCHITECTS, BJK ARCHITEKCI
2018 GDAŃSK
The year-round winter garden at Olivia Business Centre in Gdansk is designed to relax and enable employees of OBC's tenant companies to work among the greenery. The tropical forest is enclosed in a glass orangery. Visible from all sides, at dusk it is covered by a cloud of miniature luminaires under the ceiling. The luminaires, which are perfectly visible from the height of the dozens of storeys of skyscrapers surrounding the orangery, invite visitors into the garden.
At the same time, from inside they are part of the night scenery. This is complemented by the bluish moonlight of the projectors suspended below the ceiling. The treetops can also be illuminated with warm light reminiscent of a sunset. This is part of another light scene.
Projectors shine upwards on the motionless plants from under the mirror of flowing water. The constantly changing shimmer caused by the movement of the waves replaces the swaying of the leaves in the wind. A green wall planted with vines and ferns shines with dozens of spots hidden in the thicket and through the cascading water. Visitors to the conservatory can stock up on portable, USB-charged lanterns and explore the garden on their own.
