OFFICES IN THE FORMER 'RENOMA' STORE
ANALYSIS OF DAYLIGHT AVAILABILITY
2021 WROCŁAW
The 'Renoma' department store in Wrocław has gone through a lot in its more than 92-year history. However, it gained the most at the very beginning, when it came off the drawing board of Berlin architect Hermann Dernburg, as the designer proposed two courtyards to bring daylight into the shopping areas.
Today, with Renoma changing its function to offices, there was a need to make better use of natural light, as the areas are underexposed in many places and too bright in others. Therefore, we at QLAB Laboratory of Light carried out an analysis of the possibilities of using daylight, in effect proposing the use of our QLS system.
The visualisations show, in sequence: a surface with too much light at the windows and too dark an interior when the windows are uncovered; a surface that is entirely too dark when the windows are obscured by roller blinds; a surface that is fairly evenly lit thanks to the use of QLS's double light shelves.
Thanks to advanced software and high-class specialists, we are able to carry out a lighting analysis of each building and propose the optimum solution for using the existing light and supporting it with appropriately selected artificial light.
